Some tough love
You’re giving up if you accept this eating disorder as the only life you’ll ever live. As broken and controlled as you are by that voice in your head, the one that’s telling you you’ll never be good enough, you’re never too weak to fight it. You may think that the voice holds the key to your freedom, but it doesn’t. You do. Don’t accept any lifestyle...
Women are commonly posed as the only victims of eating disorders, but men are just as vulnerable. Statistics indicate that 10-15% of males have eating disorders. While I’ve met and known more girls than guys who have had eating disorders, I did meet one guy who shared his experience with me. It completely changed my perspective on eating disorders. It’s not just men who fall under the...

Hunger vs. Cravings = Listening to Your Body vs....
Whenever you eat, you have two choices. You can either choose to eat by listening to your body or listening to your mind. When you’re listening to your body, you’re not relying on your rules or habits to make the decisions for you. You’re not rushing through your meal or refusing to eat more because you went over your set calorie intake for the day. You’re paying attention...
diaryof-me asked: Just wanted to say that I'm so glad I found your blog. I just started my recovery from eating disorders and it's nice to read realistic thoughts and opinions opposed to the constant negativity I hear 24/7 in my head. So, thanks (:
Hello :)
I just found your blog and I thought it would be very useful to me to talk about some issues I have with my body- I only ever talk about what I’m going to talk about with my mum but even then I don’t go to into it because she dismisses it, but that doesn’t really help me.
When I was about 14/15 yrs old I noticed that I started to get stretch marks on certain parts of...

Things I've learned over the past month
Context: I decided at the beginning of April that I needed to change my life around and start prioritizing my health over everything else (the way that I look, my weight, etc). I was sick of feeling stressed about my weight/body), about food, and numbers (calories/the number on the scale). There wasn’t some drastic change that took place. I simply introduced three key things into my life:
...
Change your mindset, before you change your body.
“You can’t focus on “losing fat”… Focus on “Gaining Health”.
Make your goal be everything about what you are GAINING… What you are moving TOWARD…
What you are GIVING yourself.
All of those old methods of gaining motivation and leverage on yourself by putting “fat pictures” of yourself on the refrigerator door or feeling guilty for “cheating”…
Those are...
Losing weight? No. GAINING health. Yes.

Think less about food.
It’s a difficult pattern to break when you spend a lot of your time thinking about food. It’s a preoccupation that’s complicated by other factors such as a desire to lose weight, gain weight, tone up, lower calorie intake, and the list goes on. It’s one thing to think about what you’re going to eat, and it’s another to go into a deep discussion with yourself...

The biggest problem is not that you lack perfection. It’s that you lack perspective. It’s that you believe in progress, but not in patience. It’s that you can’t distinguish the difference between being a product of your past and being a victim. It’s that you are so desperate for change, but not self acceptance. Imperfection was never a flaw.

(CNN) — Kirsten Haglund was 19 when she became Miss America in 2008, one of the youngest beauty queens ever to win the national title. She used that platform to speak about what for her was a very sensitive subject: eating disorders.
